Odd Future opens "Golf Wang" Pop-Up Shop

The boys at Odd Future continue to expand their title/product, as they announce the opening of 'Golf Wang,' a pop-up shop set to open this Friday (Nov. 25) on Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. The store will provide official Odd future merchandise and other products the group finds marketable (which might include some crazy shit).

Tyler, The Creator Plans to Change up His Style

Someone has tamed The Creator. Well, that someone would be Tyler himself, as he revealed in a recent interview with Spin that he will no longer rap about rape, murder, kidnapping, etc. Although these topics are what gained the young artist fame and fans, and positioned him under the limelight, Tyler admits that he must evolve creatively on his upcoming album, Wolf, due out May 2012:

"What interests me is making weird hippie music for people to get high to. With Wolf, I'll brag a little bit more, talk about money and buying sh-t. But not like any other rapper, I'll be a smart-a-- about it. Now it's just girls throwing themselves at me and sh-t, but I got a girl back home. People who want the first album again, I can't do that. I was 18, broke as f-ck. On my third album, I have money and I'm hanging out with my idols. I can't rap about the same sh-t.”

This is an encouraging sign of creative progress and maturity from the Odd Future front-man. Tyler has taken the young, rebellious, fuck-the-world/fuck your girl approach about as far as it can go. In order to remain relevant and respected in the industry, Tyler must make these stylistic adjustments/advancements, and the fact that he’s acknowledging it now has us excited for the 20 year-olds future.

Goblin Hype

With Goblin only 2 days away, we have the last two messages from Thurnis Haley (below) and two Tyler interviews (above) which help to illustrate both ends of his artistic spectrum. The first is a piece put together by Yours Truly, displaying his serious side and the second is more of the insanity we're used to. Hit the jump if you missed the first installment from Thurnis.

Odd Future In the UK

Odd Future has been across the pond for the last few weeks. First video is footage from a concert in Camden that had me thinking Odd Future may be the west-coast's long awaited answer to Wu-Tang. Just watch the chaos, raw energy, and dare I say ruckus.... that this crew ignites. Tyler all ski masked up, almost gets mauled by fans rushing the stage.

Below is a more reserved showing from Tyler and Hodgy Beats for BBC Radio as they perform Analog.

Odd Future Signs Record Deal

It was only a matter of time before Odd Future signed some sort of deal. For a while they've been chased by the big industry names but based on their music you could tell going commercial was never an aspiration of theirs. However, earlier today a deal was etched out allowing OFWGKTA to remain independent, own their masters, and reach a larger audience under RED Distribution/Sony. Although not fully official quite yet here is what Chris Clancy, Odd Future's manager had to say.

“It’s based on getting the distribution deal we’ve always envisioned that allows the group to “sign themselves” to their own company and keep their masters. They will have 100% creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no 3rd party participation in outside business. Freedom and ownership was the whole point. Red and Sony know that its in everyone’s best interest to maintain the group’s authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There’s no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works.. It’s about to be fun.. and different..." - Chris Clancy
